Programmes

1. In order to accomplish its responsibilities in joining NATO, Romania has to take intensive steps in training of its personnel. The Launch of MAP determined the increase of the number of ministries and governmental agencies having responsibilities in the cooperation with NATO. As consequence, there is a need to train a number of civilian and military experts, enough to assume responsibilities and lead the cooperation projects both within NATO and whit national structures. Equally important is to provide the civil society and the public opinion an opportunity to learn more about NATO.

2. ObjectivesNATO Studies Center aims at contributing, by its specific means, to the establishment of a “security community” with in the NATO field, developing activities like:

  • Information = regarding NATO’s goals, organization, polices, offering the target public groups adequate informative materials: studies, articles, books, handbooks, CDs, video cassettes.

  • Education = educational and training programs on NATO issues.

  • Research = studies and analyses on foreign and security issues strategically important for Romania and NATO Black Sea, Moldavia, Ukraine, Caucasus and Caspic Sea Regions.

  • Consultancy and advocacy = the development of an independent analysis capacity whose results could be provided upon request to domestic and foreign partners

NATO Senior Executive Master is a program designed after the educative system of NATO Defense College from Roma. The Mater includes a significant number of western guest lectures from the NATO Head Quarters and from member states as well as a visit at NATO HQ Brussels.

Understanding the new NATO. Civic education and public information program which aims at informing the Romanian public opinion on the main political and military aspects of the Alliance, after the Prague Summit.

A strong Romania in a powerful Alliance. An applied research program designed for identifying and evaluating future Romanian strategic responsibilities within the Alliance.The program aims to ensure the good knowledge and basic understanding of:

  • The Alliance’s shared values and interests, the missions, the military and political concepts, and decision and policy-making mechanism within NATO.

  • NATO’s general security framework, present and future trends in international politics, in different fields, that would have a certain influence over NATO’s role and development, and the potential security threats for the member states.

  • Both political and socioeconomic characteristics, defense and security systems and security capacities of NATO’ member states and their partners.

  • Management principles, defense planning, and resources management within NATO.

  • Crisis prevention and management.

  • NATO’s role and interaction with other organization within Euro-Atlantic area, and new relations and cooperation programs with other countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East, and North Africa.
